Building a personal brand, a newsletter funnel, and a digital product business from scratch

Tech Beach Mama is not just a website — it is a growing platform and a personal mission. Launched after leaving employment to go independent, it is designed to inspire women to enter frontend development and build careers that work for their lives. The site serves as the digital home for a brand built on Instagram, a newsletter funnel, and a growing suite of digital products — all built and owned by me, and continuing to evolve.

A platform born from a career decision

-- THE VISION

Tech Beach Mama started after I left my job to go fully independent. The motivation was straightforward: I had spent years building skills in frontend development and product design, and I wanted to help other women — particularly mothers — do the same, without having to start from zero the way I did.
The platform is built around a simple funnel: attract women through Instagram who are curious about tech careers, bring them to the website to offer real value through free and paid resources, and grow a community of women building financial independence through web development, UI/UX design, and project management.
This is a long-term project. Unlike client work, which has a defined end point, Tech Beach Mama is designed to grow over years — new content, new products, and an audience that expands as the brand does. That shaped every technical and design decision from the start.
Building a personal brand platform from scratch comes with its own set of constraints.
  • Designed, built, and maintained entirely solo alongside freelance client work
  • Needed to function as a real conversion funnel, not just a portfolio piece
  • Architecture must scale as the product offering grows over time
  • Visual identity and tone had to feel distinct and personal, not generic

Clean, modern, and built to convert

-- DESIGN CONCEPT

The design was created in Figma with conversion as a first-class concern alongside aesthetics. The visual language needed to feel warm, aspirational, and credible — communicating that this is a serious resource built by someone who has actually done what she is teaching. Clean layout, intentional typography, and a colour palette that feels modern without being cold. Every section is structured to guide the visitor toward the newsletter signup or a digital product.

Built for performance, flexibility, and long-term growth

-- STACK & ARCHITECTURE

The stack was chosen specifically for what this platform needs to do over the long term: fast performance, easy content updates, and the flexibility to add new product types, pages, and integrations without rebuilding from scratch.
Next.js handles server-side rendering and routing, Tailwind CSS gives full design control without a bloated stylesheet, and Shadcn UI provides accessible, composable components that keep the codebase clean as the project grows. The repository is private — this is a live commercial project, not just a demonstration piece.
The technical stack was selected to support a growing digital product business.
  • Next.js for performance, SEO, and scalable routing
  • Tailwind CSS for design control and rapid iteration
  • Shadcn UI for accessible, composable component architecture
  • Figma-first design process before implementation
  • Newsletter funnel integration for audience building
  • Architecture ready for expanding digital product catalogue

From Instagram to email list to digital products

-- THE FUNNEL

The platform is built around a deliberate conversion path. Visitors arrive primarily from Instagram, where the brand publishes content about frontend careers, freelancing, and the lifestyle that goes with them. The website captures that interest with a free resource — an eBook on how to start a frontend career — that feeds into an automated email sequence.
The current product offering includes the free lead magnet eBook and a paid eBook on freelancing. The roadmap includes further digital products, courses, and resources as the audience grows. Every page on the site is designed with this funnel in mind — not as an afterthought, but as the structural logic the entire site is built around.

Real resources for women entering tech

-- CONTENT & PRODUCTS

The content on Tech Beach Mama is drawn directly from my own experience: learning design before code, rebuilding professionally, going independent, and growing income over time. That personal narrative runs through everything — the Instagram content, the eBooks, and the site copy.
Current offerings: a free eBook on starting a frontend career as part of the lead magnet funnel, and a paid eBook on freelancing. The platform is intentionally built to expand — new digital products, resources, and eventually community features are part of the long-term roadmap.

What the platform currently offers:

  • Free eBook — Remote, Respected & Rich: A Strategic Frontend Roadmap for Modern Mothers
  • Paid eBook on freelancing and building an independent career in tech
  • Automated email sequence via MailerLite for nurturing new subscribers
  • Active Instagram channel driving organic traffic to the funnel
  • Roadmap includes courses, templates, and community features

Built to be found and fast to load

-- PERFORMANCE & SEO

Performance and SEO were built in from the start, not added afterwards. Next.js server-side rendering ensures pages are indexable and fast, Tailwind keeps the CSS footprint minimal, and the component architecture avoids the kind of bloat that slows down content-heavy sites over time.
For a platform that depends on organic discovery and social traffic converting into newsletter subscribers, load speed and Core Web Vitals directly affect conversion rates — not just search rankings. That connection between technical quality and business outcome shaped every implementation decision.

A live platform, a growing audience, and a long-term project

-- THE OUTCOME

Tech Beach Mama is the project I am most personally invested in. It is simultaneously a demonstration of what I can build technically, a real business with real products and a growing audience, and a creative outlet that sits outside client work.
It is also the project that prompted an interviewer to call it a great personal project — which, for something built solo alongside everything else, felt like the right kind of validation.
What the project demonstrates:
  • End-to-end ownership — design, development, content, and business strategy
  • Conversion-focused design applied to a real funnel with real products
  • Production-grade Next.js architecture built for long-term scalability
  • Active audience building via Instagram and an automated email funnel
  • A platform that continues to grow — this case study will keep evolving
